Dear Varasano's,

After trekking 35 minutes from my house to find some excellent pizzas, I wasn't left disappointed. I thought both of the pies I ordered were tasty and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending your place to friends or family. However, this isn't about the food - it's about my entire dining experience.

We were quite confused when we entered your restaurant in the afternoon. No one was there to greet us and I knew you guys weren't closed because there was a female at the bar drinking a martini while looking through some papers (rough day huh?). After standing around for a minute, I made my way towards the kitchen where your staff was hanging out near the kitchen. Is it okay if I eat here I wondered? A waiter finally caught sight of us and we just sat at the table next to where we were standing.

After being seated the waiter asked us what we wanted to drink. Well good afternoon to you too sir. We went with 2 waters to drink as our waiter rolled his eyes saying ok. Seriously, what do you want from my 12 year old brother? "Yes waiter, my brother would like a Sprite on the rocks with a twist". Come on.

Soon after, another party came through the door and they were asked if this was their first time there. I'm kinda glad my waiter skipped this for drinks because both of the girls just laughed after another waiter finished telling an epic saga about Jeff's life. I think they we were just here for good food - just sayin.

The pizzas came out quickly after we ordered. The margherita had a crispy crust, a flavorful sauce and I liked the sourness from the dough. I made the mistake of trying to lift a slice straight out of the pan and everything just came falling out. No fork and knives though - so fingers it was (I think the best way to do this is to place your plate right next to the pan and quickly slide the pizza slice over to keep everything in tact). The caramelized onion we ordered (and yes waiter, for the third time - we were sure we didn't want more extra toppings. Where the hell am I, Tuk Tuk?) was delicious as well. My little brother doesn't even like onions or thyme but he devoured this pizza.

After finishing off both pizzas, our waiter asked if we wanted any desserts. We were pretty satisfied at this point so we declined. "Are you sure? Okay" he said as he raised his eyebrows. Yes, I'm sure or would you like me to write that down and send it to your Blackberry?

After paying the tab we walked out without a thank you or good bye from your staff. Why I paid +20% in tips - I still don't know.

Will I return to your pizzeria? A reluctant - yes. I truly enjoyed your pizzas and I was craving them later that night and the next day also. However, you need to do something about the service as I know I'm not the only one who's experienced this lackluster performance. Our waiter was condescending (some would say rude...or worse) and we felt uncomfortable during our time there. I got a tip from a reader saying that Jordan is an excellent server so I'm not trying to damn your entire front of house but there may be certain individuals you need to reevaluate.

Until next time,
-Sean

P.S. - waiter, smile for F sakes. It's free, it doesn't cost anything
