One of our most memorable meals in New Orleans was at Mother's Restaurant. There's usually a lengthy line outside the door during dinner time but waiting your turn to get in with your fellow dining compatriots just adds to the experience.
The crawfish etouffée comes with your choice of two sides and I highly recommend getting the red beans as one of them. Mother's had one of the tastiest red beans that we had during our stay in New Orleans -- thick, savory and no odd aftertaste. The generous serving of etouffée was delicious, as well as the cabbage which was our second side dish. All that food for $10.25 -- a great deal in a tourist town.
The behemoth above is the Famous Ferdi Special. Jam packed with Mother's famous, daily baked ham, roast beef, debris (roast beef bits that falls into the gravy when it's baking in the oven), gravy, and lettuce. It's a messy eat but man is it delicious. It's jam packed with protein, the gravy makes the sandwich so moist and juicy and your taste buds get a different savory punch with every bite.
Our meals at Mother's was both a filling and satisfying one. The service was super friendly even though the servers were hustling from table to table to keep up with customer demands. Will definitely go back if I ever go to New Orleans again!
